Hey there! I’m Brittany.
My husband, Braydon, and I, now live on a small parcel of heaven in Idaho. Half the year we’re buried under snow, but I’m learning to love the cold…slowly!
I’m a small-town girl from southern California where I grew up working on a farm and feedlot operation. There I learned to drive a tractor before a truck, process cattle before the beating sun came up, and fell in love with country living.
Now I’m a mother to 4 beautifully energetic, sometimes unruly, children–3 boys and 1 girl. I blame my husband, Braydon, for the unruly part!
Braydon is an Idaho native. He is the sole reason I found my love for this state. I’ll admit, I never saw myself settling down in the cold country, but I’ve come to love the area, and especially the people.
Our dream has always been to live off the land, and although we wished to buy more acreage at first, once we found this house it immediately felt like home.
As a stay-at-home mom, I’ve found an incredible amount of joy when I’m outside with my family working in the garden or tending to our animals. Modern-day homesteading has so much to offer! This is why I’m so excited to share our journey with you as we learn how to homestead on a micro-level! Sure, there are sacrifices to be made since we are limited by space, but there are many options available if you are willing to tweak things a bit!

So why build a homestead?
Homesteading allows us to find beauty in simple living. By no stretch of the imagination is it a simple task though! One of the mantras that we try to instill in our children is, “We can do hard things!” Weeding the garden, feeding the chickens, milking the goats, mending the fences, and planting, spraying, and harvesting the fruit trees–it takes dedication.
All these tasks build character and foster responsibility for sustainable living. We think that is a beautiful way to raise a family, and we’re doing it side-by-side!
Since we made the decision to move to Idaho, we have been excited at the prospect of raising our children with more space. More space to work, and more space to play outdoors! My children are definitely happiest when they are outside. Whether it be in the heat of summer swimming in our pool made of hay bales, or in the dead of winter doing polar challenges in the snow! Aaahh!!
We choose this lifestyle any day of the week.
